SEO Strategy

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is an extremely complex activity, but at the same time it’s a vital one for any company that wants to be found on the Internet, or, better yet, highly recommended on search engines. With good SEO, people find you more easily, and search engines, such as Google, put you on the coveted first page of search results, which is where most people will stay.

Poor SEO, however, means your rankings are poor, and you fall well off the first page, meaning that only the most diligent searchers will find you. So how do you ensure that when you’re trying to improve your SEO, you’re getting good results? Here are three reasons you might not be getting the results you want.

Your Content Is Poor

The #1 reason that your SEO is not giving you good results is that you are providing a poor product for search engines to work with. Search engines themselves are trying to help users by directing them to what is good or useful. If your website is not providing this, and other users are saying so, your SEO rankings will be poor.

We’ve evolved past the simpler days when gaming the system by copy-pasting a keyword 1000 times would get a #1 ranking on a search engine. If can’t produce useful, good content, users, and eventually search algorithms, will recognize this, and rank it appropriately.

You’re Not Allocating A Decent Budget

While content is important for natural, or organic search results from users, additional SEO results come from investment. Whether it is a specific social media platform or promotion on the search engine itself, businesses can get preferential promotion and treatment if they are willing to spend.

However, as with any investment, your return is going to be dependent on your initial expenditure. If you are investing minimal amounts in your online marketing and SEO, you’re going to see minimal results. Look at what your competitors are spending, and see how this compares with your budget.

You Need To Improve Your Backlinks

“Backlinks” are one of the factors that search engines use to determine the quality of your website and content. A backlink occurs when another website decides to mention you and your website and provides a link back to your website. The more other websites provide backlinks, the more a search engine notices, and ranks your website accordingly.

However, in addition to raising your number of backlinks, the quality counts as well. If websites with poor reputations and low ranks are providing your backlinks, this will reflect poorly on you as well, so concentrate on quality backlinks from more prominent websites.

Remember that improving your SEO rankings often takes a lot of time, so be patient as you cultivate and improve your results. Unless you get extremely lucky with a celebrity endorsement, or a social media influencer noticing you, it often takes months to see natural, organic improvement.
